The Write Stuff - Part 5
The Perfect Title
Next in the process of web content writing is coming up with the right title for your article. This is not as easy as you might first think.
A proper title is often an overlooked part of the article and it shouldn't be. Titles are very important to web site articles and can often make or break an entire article.
Titles:
The title is your first chance to grab the attention of your reader and more importantly, the client. We are not a new company and you are not the first writer to ever pen an article on Blackjack, so simply titling your article, “BLACKJACK” is not what we need.
The title should capsulate in no more than 100 characters what the article is about. Also, again I say this and will keep saying it, it should include keywords.
If your article is about poker your title should not simply say, “Betting Guidelines” as that does not let the reader have any idea what game you are talking about or know anything about your article.
So, for example, if I was writing about poker and bluffing I would write a title like, “Poker and the Art of the Bluff” or “Bluff Your Way to That Poker Pot” or “To Bluff or Not to Bluff? That is the Poker Question.” Something like that…
Also notice in each example above of good titles only the first letter of words are capitalized. Do not write titles like “POKER BLUFFING” as that is not acceptable and is akin to yelling on the Internet.
Only capitalize the first letter of each word except articles like “the” or “and” or “of”…etc.
A final note: Do not make your title too short nor can they be too long. There is a healthy balance which all writers need to find. Remember that keywords and punching up your titles to sell your article is the key.
Now that we have our topic and title written we can go into the Main Article...
